| beef stew meat: 1.5 lbs |
| onions: 2 (chopped) |
| salted butter: 2 Tbl |
| caraway seed: 2 tsp |
| dried marjoram: 1 tsp |
| garlic: 2 cloves (minced) |
| light beer: 12 fl oz |
| water: 1 cup |
| salt: 2 tsp |
| russet potatoes: 6 whole potatoes (peeled and cubed) |
| paprika: 3 Tbl |
| ketchup: 5 Tbl |

- Saute the onion and garlic in the butter until tender.
- Add the beef, beer and water, all spices and herbs except paprika.
- Bring to boil and reduce heat to simmer.
- Cover and cook about 1 hour.
- Add the potatoes and simmer another 30 minutes until tender.
- Add the ketchup and paprika, mixing well, about 10 minutes before serving.
- Good served with rye bread and cold beer.
