| unsweetened baking chocolate squares: 4 oz |
| water: 2 cups (boiling) |
| unsalted butter: 2/3 cup |
| granulated sugar: 2 cups |
| eggs: 2 |
| vanilla extract: 1 tsp |
| all-purpose flour (sifted): 3 cups |
| baking powder: 1 tsp |
| baking soda: 1 1/2 tsp |
| salt: 1 tsp |

- Pour the hot water over the chocolate in a bowl (let sit, DO NOT STIR).
- In the bowl of a mixer cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
- Pour the water off of the chocolate and reserve the water.
- Pour the melted chocolate into the butter, sugar, egg, vanilla mixture and beat well.
- Mix flour and other dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
- Add the dry mixture in three batches to the mixing bowl alternating with the reserved water. Mix thoroughly.
- Bake in a buttered and floured tube pan at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.
