-
Cut the french bread about 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick.
-
Whisk together the 1 cup of milk, the 4 large eggs, the 1 Tbsp of sugar, the 1 tsp of vanilla extract, and 1/4 tsp of salt.
-
If desired, can add about 1 tbsp of orange zest for some extra zing.
-
Place the bread in the mixture, about 1 to 2 minutes per side. Depending on how old the bread is, it may need to soak in the mixture a little more. When it's done soaking, check to make sure it is heavy but not falling apart.
-
Heat up a frying pan. When the frying pan is hot, then add about 1/4 cup of canola oil or any vegetable oil.
-
Fry the slices about 1-2 minutes or so on each side, until it's brown, maybe a little longer if you like it crispier. (I like mine burnt).
-
When the toast is done, put on a plate that has paper towels to sop up the oil. Sprinkle with a little sugar and cinnamon and eat with maple syrup or whatever syrup is on hand.
