-
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
-
Lightly grease an 8" x 10" baking pan.
-
Cook the macaroni until al dente then drain.
-
Chop broccoli into bite size pieces.
-
Quarter the Polish sausage length-wise then slice into bite sized pieces.
-
Fry the Polish sausage until brown then drain off the excess grease.
-
Steam the broccoli until it is tender but still firm.
-
In a large sauce pan melt the butter then add the flour and stir continuously to make a light roux.
-
Add milk slowly to the roux, a little at a time, stirring continuously until thickened and creamy.
-
Add in the American cheese a bit at a time while stirring the sauce until all cheese is added and melted into creamy goodness.
-
Mix the chili powder, garlic powder, dried basil, cumin and black pepper to the sauce.
-
Fold the sauce into the cooked macaroni.
-
(If you have picky kids like I do this is where you can portion out their servings into a covered dish and keep it warm.).
-
Gently fold the cooked Polish sausage and broccoli into the macaroni and cheese.
-
Pour the macaroni mixture into the prepared baking dish.
-
Sprinkle the bread crumbs evenly over the top.
-
Bake for 20 minutes until the top turns a golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
-
Serve and enjoy!
