Heat oven to 450.

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cut shortening into mixture with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

Stir in just enough milk to form a soft dough. Dough should leave the side of the bowl and round up into a ball.

Too much milk will make the dough sticky and not enough milk will make biscuits dry.

Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and need 10 to 15 strokes.

Roll or pat to 1/2" thick. Cut with floured biscuit cutter.

Place on baking sheet about an inch apart for crusty sides or let biscuits touch for soft sides.

Bake on lightly greased pan for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove immediately from cookie sheet.
